A Community Led, Participatory Model

FFT operates on a development model where the community is not the beneficiary of a plan. It is the author of one.

Local Ownership

Solutions are identified and designed by the community itself.

Before a single activity is planned, we sit with the people who will live with the result. Community members define the problem, shape the response, and hold the outcome. That is what makes a program stay standing.

Practical Skills Over Dependency

Equipping individuals with tools, knowledge, and dignity rather than temporary relief.

Relief has its place, but it does not compound. We invest in skills, assets, and systems a household can keep using long after the project cycle closes.

Inclusion & Accessibility

Prioritising women, youth, vulnerable children, and persons with disabilities.

Inclusion is not an add on. Our programs are built so that the people most often left out of local development are the first ones designed for.

How It Works

From First Conversation To Handover

1

Listen

We begin with the community, not a template. Needs are assessed on the ground in Nandi County by people who live there.

2

Co-Design

Community members, local leaders, and our field team shape the response together, with clear roles from the start.

3

Deliver

Programs run through existing schools, households, and groups, with budgets tracked and milestones measured.

4

Hand Over

Ownership transfers to the community structures we strengthened, and we measure whether it holds.

Practical Skills In Action
Why It Matters

Dependency Ends Where Capability Begins

A uniform gets a child through the school gate. A garden keeps them fed enough to concentrate. A savings group means the family can absorb a bad month without pulling that child out again.

None of those pieces work alone. Together they change what a household can plan for, and that is the difference between relief and resilience.

  • Designed with the community, not delivered to it
  • Built on assets and skills that stay in the household
  • Inclusive by design for women, youth, children, and persons with disabilities
  • Measured against handover, not against activity counts
